We get multiple calls each week from folks that would like a Concealed Weapons Permit but have no experience with a handgun. These students ultimately take our Beginners Pistol course and then take our CWP class. This can get costly, though. Two separate classes, two separate days, two separate tuitions.
We decided it was time to create a class that accomplished both; teach beginners how to shoot AND cover the material required to get their CWP in one class. We call it Beginners Pistol + CWP. How’s that for creativity?
Beginners Pistol is a class geared towards those that are new to handguns that are interested in learning gun safety and how to shoot… and how to shoot well.
The CWP portion is an abbreviated version of our popular CWP class that covers just the SLED required material necessary to pass the exam.
Included Topics:
Causes of gun accidents
Four cardinal rules of gun safety
Parts of a pistol
Pistol maintenance
Proper firearms storage
Ammunition and malfunctions
Loading/unloading a semiautomatic pistol
Shooting fundamentals
South Carolina law
Self defense law
Live fire on a shooting range
CWP shooting qualification – 25 rounds
Students are given a comprehensive resource packet to take home that summarizes the content of the class. The packet also includes the completed application and instructions with how to process with SLED.
This class entails 8 hours of training to complete each of the above components
The class is held at Mid-Carolina Rifle Club and is geared for no more than 8 students at a time although exceptions can be made.
The student does not need to possess a pistol for the class.
A .22LR pistol is provided along with 50 rounds of ammunition. More .22LR ammunition will most likely be needed and is available for purchase for $10 a box.
Students are more than welcome to bring their own pistols; however, holsters are required in this case.
Higher caliber gun rentals are available. Ammunition in 9mm, .380ACP, 40S&W, and 38 special are available for purchase in class.
The class promptly starts at the time indicated.
