So, your home defense firearm of choice is a rifle. Hopefully, you have found a method to secure it that allows for immediate access should you find yourself a victim of a home invasion.

Handgun storage options that allow for instant access for home defense are quite plentiful. They are also pretty easy to find room for. Rifles, on the other hand, aren’t so easy to store where they aren’t accessible by unauthorized people or children and immediately accessible for defense purposes. Recently, I was asked what options are available and put together some information to help this client out. Hopefully, it can help you too.

For starters, here’s a pretty good video that gives an overview of some of the options out there. I am not a fan of any of the models discussed, but it is good to give an idea of what to look for and the questions to be asking yourself.

Here’s an option I am a huge fan of by SecureIt Gun Storage. The configuration I prefer is the under-bed mount option. The link below has videos demonstrating this configuration. It is the option I would go with when the day comes that I add a shotgun to my home defense plan. Currently, I use strictly handguns. The only reason I would personally go this route over the final option I have below is because my closet is too far from my bed and it would take me too long to get to it. Every second counts.

I have saved the best for last. These next safes by Vaultek would satisfy multiple purposes depending on where you could put them. There are two different sizes. This would be my number one choice if my wife would let me put one of these in the bedroom right next to my dresser or in the corner of the bedroom. They are the mack daddy in my opinion if you are looking for a high tech safe. And, being that I am a Vaultek dealer, I will have one of these at some point. It’s a bit on the pricier side but worth every penny. Now, if high tech features and quick access are not what you are looking for in a gun safe, this is not the safe for you. https://youtu.be/P0nJz3sIP8o

In closing, the gentleman in the first video is not a fan of the electronics. I don’t see them as a problem provided you keep batteries charged and are well versed in invoking all the access options quickly, which, like anything, requires practice.

For quick access securing of a pistol, my only recommendation is the Vaultek products. You can see them here. They are the only options I use in both my house and vehicles. I am always sure to have a Vaultek safe in my classes to allow students the opportunity to try them out.
