Dry Fire Practice Options

Dry Fire Practice Options
Dry fire practice options at home

Dry fire practice at home is essential if you want to stand a chance against a real live threat. How has your practice been going? Do you think you can get it right when it really counts and your life depends on it? Continue reading for some great home dry fire practice options.

If you’ve been to one of my classes, you know how much I try to hammer home the importance of dry fire practice. If you are really serious about using a firearm as a tool for self defense, you need to be practicing multiple times a week. Practicing at the range is costly and is quite time consuming. Dry fire practice at home is the complete opposite. It is dirt cheap and takes a fraction of the time. But what about the effectiveness of dry fire?

You ask any world-class competitive shooter or any high speed tactical shooter about the effectiveness of dry fire practice at home and they will tell you it is the secret to being the best and winning. When you are in a fight for your life, I can guarantee you’ll want to win.

What prompted me to write this article is the fact that we were all stuck at home in quarantine because of the damned Covid-19 virus. Whether we’re quarantined or not, making the time for some serious dry fire practice is essential to becoming the shooter you’ve always wanted to be (maybe even the one you think you already are).

Resources

BarrelBlok

There are tons of resources out there to give you drills you can practice at home. The Dry Fire Primer by Annette Evans is just one of many. Take a few minutes to Google more options of your own. These use your own unloaded pistol. You would also use your own holster you carry every day. Heck, even if you don’t want to purchase any resources, you should be practicing your draw from concealment wearing the clothes you would normally wear every day hundreds of times a week. You can practice maintaining perfect sight alignment during your trigger press. You can practice reloads, clearing stoppages, you name it. Using a BarrelBlok makes it that much better because it allows your pistol to function like it’s loaded, only it makes it impossible to load. It’s awesome. Check it out here

Virtual Shooting Range

Now, some of us simply don’t have the attention span to do this at home as often as we should. I get it. How would you like to have a virtual range at home? One that has tons of training built in. Or, one that has a ton of fun challenges that build your skills. Well, they exist.

Since being confined to my house during this pandemic, I have been racking up hours and hours of training upstairs with my virtual range. With this system, there is nothing I cannot work on… and it is a blast. Take a look at the video below to get an idea of how it works.

What you are looking at is a SIRT pistol from NextLevel Training combined with LASR X. I am using the SIRT 20, which is an exact replica of the Sig Sauer P320. They make replicas of the Glock 17/22 and S&W M&P platforms as well. In the video, I am using a webcam with a laptop. LASR X works even better with a tablet or even your phone. You can get the entire set up directly from ConcealedCarry.com. You will never look at dry fire practice the same way again with this dry fire practice option.

In Conclusion

I hope this article gave you some great home dry fire options. At the very least, I hope it hammered home the importance of dry fire practice. You should be making 80% of your practice dry fire. Do this religiously and I promise you, you won’t believe the improvement you’ll see at the range. And, it very well may determine whether you survive an attack or not.
